Fraser Smart tops Formula Renault Club Class rankings

The Cumbernauld News reports that Kilsyth single-seater racer Fraser Smart, a pensions actuary, took two Club Class podiums during rounds three and four of the 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship on April 20 at Rockingham in Northamptonshire to move to the top of the championship table.

Smart claimed victory in round three and a second in round four of the Club Class to lead ahead of rival, Edward Heinzelmann. Smart lined the grid for the first race as pole-sitter, earning himself a bonus championship point and placing him 21st overall ahead of some FR2000 Class cars. He said: “I think it’s shaping up to be a great season and look forward to more close racing as the year goes on.”

Smart is currently leading the Club Class championship with 54 points. Round five was due to take place at Cheshire’s Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday 26 May. For more information visit www.renaultsport.co.uk/championships/formularenaultbarc/news
