The main, indeed only, argument put forward by Faculty Council in favour of merger is that the change will enable the profession to be rescued from its poor public image by being spun into a new brand unrecognisable from the old one. This seems unrealistic, to put it mildly. To promote their cause, however, Faculty Council, with the clear support of Institute Council, is working hard to avoid the directives passed, with full legitimacy, by the 16 April Faculty SGM. Do Councils believe this disgraceful behaviour is consistent with their objective of enhancement of our image? The mind is now boggling!
